Dr. Rustin Abdurahman

Dr. Rustin Abdurahman remembers being drawn to dentistry at a young age . . .

“I think I wanted to become a dentist because of my childhood dentist who was always kind,  gentle and fun to be around. He made the dental experiences I had positive ones. To this day I try to emulate Dr. Vanry so people have gentle experiences with me as their dentist”

Experience

After receiving his Kinesiology Degree from Simon Fraser University in 1990 Dr. A decided to act on his dream and in 1995 he graduated from the University of British Columbia Dental School.  Upon graduation Dr. Abdurahman went to work as an associate dentist in Terrace where he met his wife Rhonda. In 1997 he bought a practice in Nanaimo.  After 10 years, in 2007, he sold the Nanaimo practice in order to purchase retiring Dr. Jim English’s practice in Nanoose Bay!

Philosophy

Dr. Abdurahman’s dental philosophy revolves around educating patients on their current level of oral health and their subsequent treatment choices and he treats each patient gently as possible – many patients comment on how gentle he is during injections.  He attends many Continuing Dental Education courses and conferences to keep his own knowledge current in the ever evolving dental field.

The Team

Barbara Flynn, CDA/Receptionist

Barb has lived on Vancouver Island most of her life and there is no place she’d rather be. She has been a Certified Dental Assistant for 29 years, 3 of which have been at Nanoose Bay Dental. What she loves most about being here is how dentistry has such a positive effect on people’s daily lives. Barb is married with four grown children and one, apple of her eye, grandson. She loves family, friends, food, hiking, fishing, her farm animals, movies, music, dancing and sunny days.

Peggy DeMelo, RDH

Originally from Toronto, Ont., Peggy moved to Nanoose in March 2009 with the intention of working for a year and moving back to Ontario. Thankfully she has fallen in love with Vancouver Island and is here to stay along with her husband, son, and daughter. She also enjoys traveling, reading, hiking, swimming, cycling and camping – a major reason for loving the island. She really enjoys working at Nanoose Bay Dental because everyone here is genuinely caring, professional, and a pleasure to be around.

Shannon Sedola, RDH

Born and raised in Lantzville, Shannon received her dental hygiene education at Vancouver Island University in 2010.  She enjoys reading, hiking, camping, running, and spending time with her boyfriend Kyle and her dog Remington. Her favorite part about coming to work everyday is educating clients about oral hygiene and health, and working with them to achieve their goals.

Kelsey Carter, CDA

Kelsey graduated Vancouver Island University in 2012 and has been a member of Nanoose Bay Dental for since then. She enjoys helping people and seeing positive changes. Also, she looks forward to expanding her knowledge and continuously learning.

In her spare time, Kelsey enjoys going to the gym, hiking, and relaxing with friends and family. She also loves spending time with her pets as well as her niece.

Testimonials

We have been coming to this office for three generations – me, my daughters and my granddaughters. I love the girls out front , Barb and Marion, they are caring and helpful.

Dr. Abdurahman likes to do things just right and I feel like he listens and combines my needs with his treatment recommendations.

_______

When my wife and I had to change our timeline for all the treatment we needed, Dr. Abdurahman and his team were very accommodating. Thanks to their overextended flexibility all of our dental work was completed in the short time we needed with great care. Service like this is hard to come by.

_______

Dr. Abdurahman and his team are great! I find them to be exceptionally up to date on the latest research and technology but it is their caring approach that makes them stand out. After a more complicated procedure they called the next day to make sure I was alright. I’ve been going for 22 years and am glad to be a patient here.

_______

I had been going to this office for 29 years and when Dr. Abdurahman starting working here a couple of years ago I thought I would be nervous. I was pleasantly surprised to see Barb and Marion at the front – they remembered me and made me feel comfortable. They also talked about how great Dr. Abdurahman was which instilled the confidence I needed.

I noticed all of his new equipment and really liked the way he made my new smile look. I felt 10 years younger! I would absolutely recommend him to others.
